Simply Devine

A Retrospective of Danny Devine

Lead Image

Simply Devine: A Retrospective of Danny Devine (1982-2021) showcases thought-provoking, uplifting, joyful, and playful works created by the late Pittsburgh native. Danny was a respected graffiti writer, muralist, photographer, printmaker, painter, mentor, and friend to many. The immersive exhibition embodies Danny’s dedication to creativity and his prolific artistic output - taking viewers on a visual journey exploring his complexity as an artist.

His stylistic legacy is a mixture of his classic arts training, earning a Fine Arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his time spent painting the urban landscapes of Pittsburgh and wandering through its rivers, bridges and trainyards. His love for his city and friends was evident in everything he did.

"I love everything about Pittsburgh. I didn’t want to move anywhere else and I wanted to stay here because Pittsburgh has everything I need at this point. I like rust, I like bridges, I like river spots. There’s nothing like drinking beer under a bridge when it’s like 60 degrees out with your friends, like that’s just, that’s it. There’s nothing else that’s better than that.” - Danny Devine, 2012

This intimate retrospective will also feature a tribute wall by Danny’s family and friends that reflect upon his unique artistic styles. (Names are listed in alphabetical order.)
