Starting in 2020, artist Kit Monkman of KMA has invited individuals to be filmed while viewing an image of someone they love. The person in the photo is never recorded and remains secret. These video portraits are then combined and brought together in different public spaces. PEOPLE WE LOVE asks visitors to meet the gaze of each video portrait and wonder about the story behind those loving eyes. Originally launched in York, United Kingdom, this project's North American debut is here at Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival and features over 150 members of the Pittsburgh community. For the first time, every portrait from both York and Pittsburgh will be shown together in one installation on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th 2022.
PEOPLE WE LOVE is funded by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Uncommon and Curated Fund, with support from an anonymous donor. This installation was originally commissioned by Mediale using funds from Arts Council England.
