On view at The National Museum is currently the “The National Museum of Broken Treaties” by Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds. In response to Heap of Bird’s text, the legendary poet and Indigenous rights activist, Suzan Shown Harjo wrote a new poem titled “Museum of Broken Treaties” which can be viewed on the window of the building. In collaboration with The National Museum’s founder, Jon Rubin and Carnegie Mellon University, high school students from Urban Pathways Charter School met with Harjo to discuss her poetry and learn about her activism and work. Join as the students stand outside the Museum to read Harjo’s poem out loud.
