Each hat has 4 layers of Merino wool fiber laid around a flexible resist. For luminosity, a different color is used for each layer, adding silk fiber and fabric to the outermost one. The fibers are turned into felt by wetting with soapy water and rubbing, rolling and kneading until shrunk 35-45%. Resist is removed, the hat is checked for size and further felted or stretched, and soap is rinsed out. The felt is draped on a hat block until dry. Finally, a grosgrain ribbon and label is sewn to the inside.
