A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST ABOUT MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE: "Pittsburgh Pottery is a homegrown ceramics company started in November 2012, featuring a wide variety of ceramics in different shapes, functionality, and styles. You can find simple tableware that shouts Pittsburgh pride with local sayings and imagery, as well as a "Rad Clay" body of work that features a cacophony of intense glazes and eclectic illustrations. Wheel throwing, hand building and slip-casting are my preferred methods of creation. I choose red earthenware for it's versatility and rich history in Majolica pottery. I hand paint underglazes, decals, overglazes, enamels and china paints to transform the surface into a detail layered composition, elevating the mundane mug to a work of art. I use vibrant colors and a black sgraffito."
